Featured Product: LM386 Op Amp

Pdip-8_154

This is the LM386 Op Amp that is featured in the LM386 Stereo Amp Kit available on Tayda Electronics. Its not very big and its not super complicated. But it's easy to assemble and works well.

The LM386 is an operational amplifier.

Using a single 9 Volt Battery this Op Amp can output .25 to 1 watt. The LM386 is useful for Small Audio Amplifiers, Radios, and battery powered hobby electronic projects.

The LM386 is a Double Inline Package so it is easily breadboarded or worked with on copper perforated boards.

The LM386's pinout is shown below. Its a pretty standard Op Amp except it has gain options on pins 1 and 8.

To make the LM386 a more versatile amplifier, two pins(1and 8) are provided for gain control. With pins 1 and 8 open the 1.35 kΩ resistor sets the gain at 20(26dB),If a capacitor is put from pin 1 to 8,bypassing the 1.35 kΩ resistor, the gain will go up to 200(46dB).If a resistor is placed in series with the capacitor, the gain can be set to any value from 20 to 200.

A basic amplifier circuit with no gain between pins 1 and 8. The datasheet is actually a wealth of information with this chip and has this handy basic circuit.

My LM386 Headphone amplifier. This is the basic kit that is sold from Tayda Electronics. Its still a work in progress, and I will update this when I have mine actually working.

My LM386 Headphone Amplifier. Its easy to build. I will update with more photots and updates when I complete my head phone amp.
